Wisbech Window Wanderland

Wisbech Window Wanderland

Event: 11 and 12 December

5.30PM - 8.30PM

Wisbech to become a Window Wanderland for two nights this December

We invite you to light up the neighbourhood this festive season by making an illuminated window display in your home.

Taking part is free and everyone is invited to get involved. Whatever your traditions at this time of year, we encourage you to celebrate them through your display. Anything goes… as long as it’s family friendly!

In partnership with The Wisbech High Street Project, we have signed up the town to creating a family-friendly illuminated window trail as a COVID-safe alternative to our annual Victorian Christmas event.

You can use the street-facing windows or doors of your home, business, school, nursery, or even your car or front garden. A map showing the locations of illuminated displays will be created to form an after-dark walking trail the whole community can enjoy safely.

Wisbech Window Wanderland will take place over the evenings of Friday 11 and Saturday 12 December. Families, businesses, and community groups are encouraged to get involved by decorating and lighting up their windows or gardens between 5.30pm and 8.30pm.

In-keeping with our Victorian heritage, artist Fred White will be creating a window display inspired by the Christmas tree at the Museum; the Victorians are credited with popularising the tradition of placing decorated trees inside the home in England at Christmas.

Displays can be as simple or as extravagant as you like. You could use tissue paper, use your recycling materials, or bring out the spray-on snow, fairy lights and tinsel.

If you’re planning on transforming a window for Wisbech Window Wanderland please sign up on our Window Wanderland event page so that we can map participants and create a local walking trail for everyone to enjoy.

The event has been made possible thanks to support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
