International anti-slavery event POSTPONED due to Covid-19

International anti-slavery event POSTPONED due to Covid-19

International anti-slavery event at Wisbech is postponed due to Covid-19 precautions.

Organisers of a unique conference due to be held this weekend (Saturday Mar 14) at Wisbech have decided to postpone it as a precaution against the spread of Covid-19.

Speakers expected to travel from all over the UK have been told the Cambridgeshire Abolitionists Conference at St Peter's Church Hall will not go ahead as planned for the time being.

The one-day event inspired by Wisbech man Thomas Clarkson's lifelong anti-slavery campaign in the 1800s will link this history with today's initiatives in Cambridgeshire and the fens to stamp out slavery in its many modern forms.

Organiser Sarah Coleman of Wisbech and Fenland Museum said: “We are postponing as a precaution and very much looking forward to holding the Conference in the future when it is safe to do so."
