Volunteer now to help put together a Museum exhibition about local people's memories

Volunteer now to help put together a Museum exhibition about local people's memories

The Wisbech and Fenland Museum is offering a new volunteering opportunity for the New Year – the chance to curate and gather material for a community exhibition, supported by the museum's professional staff.

The exhibition, on the theme of Mementos, will open in March 2020 and will explore the power of objects to hold our most precious personal memories and emotions.

The Museum is looking for volunteers for the project with an interest in the arts and heritage and/or community engagement, who enjoy working with others, have good communication and listening skills and who can show respect and empathy when working with different groups of people.

Project officer Louise Haselgrove said: “This exhibition will display eclectic items chosen from the Museum's own collection alongside mementos loaned by local people for whom they hold particular significance.

“Among their other tasks, the new volunteers will be involved in pop-up events we're holding at community venues in and around Wisbech through January and February to encourage members of the public to loan their precious personal items for the exhibition.

“Together we'll collect personal stories associated with the objects and where appropriate incorporate them into the exhibition design.”

If you are interested in joining this exciting project, you'll need to make contact by Friday, January 17. You don't need to have volunteered before, and support will be provided as you will be working alongside staff and experienced volunteers throughout.

To register your interest and for further information, please contact Louise Haselgrove, Sharing Cultures Project Officer. Email: volunteering@wisbechmuseum.org.uk Call:01945 583817.
