The Peckover family album of travel
This album of photographs covers a visit to Egypt in 1865 a grand tour in 1872, an 1886 trip taking in Belgium, the Eiffel following the Rhine river, and many destinations here in the UK.
Alexander Peckover collected atlases and wanted to learn about the world through travel. His first tour was of Egypt in 1865 and following this he wanted to share travel with his young family.
The family tour in 1872 lasted 53 days and covered over 3000 miles through Europe.
The subsequent family tour along the Rhine in 1886 was documented in diary entries alongside watercolour sketches by Alexandrina Peckover.
The Peckovers also enjoyed staycations locally and scenes of Ely, Wisbech, Sutton Bridge and the seaside resort of Hunstanton in West Norfolk feature in the album.
