Heritage Schools CPD: From Stone Age to 1066
Online Event: June - July
Local Heritage and the Primary History Curriculum: Boosting subject knowledge at Key Stage Two
Are you looking to combine the rich stories of local heritage with the requirements of the National Curriculum for History at Key Stage Two?
Would you like to boost your subject knowledge so that you can teach with more confidence to the greater depth now required by the new OFSTED framework?
Want some insight in to what OFSTED are looking for in their ‘deep dives’?
“From Stone Age to 1066” will give an academic overview from a national perspective of four KS2 History units delivered by Andrew Wrenn (a fellow of the Historical Association) with examples of the impact of each period on Cambridgeshire and the surrounding area. Reference to sites, artefacts, and resources for your locality will be provided by Kate Argyle (Local Heritage Education Manager, Historic England) in collaboration with local heritage organisations to support you to build local heritage into each unit.
Each webinar will arrange content around a series of rigorous historical enquiry questions with guidance on how these can be sequenced into coherent medium-term plans and supported by engaging activities. The culmination of the series will be a planning surgery where you can ask questions, look at progression, and review your own KS2 curriculum maps and medium-term plans.
This is an ideal opportunity for History leads but is open to all teachers who would like to attend either all or selected sessions.
Sessions will be delivered over Zoom and run from 4 pm to 6 pm. Sessions will be recorded so that they can be made available to other colleagues in your school after the event. It is possible to book to attend all, one, or a selection of the sessions available.
