VJ Day: the end of the War for Wisbech
The special 2-day exhibition will feature photographs, documents and newspaper cuttings recording some of the local men who served during the War with a particular spotlight on those who fought in the Far East, many of whom became prisoners of the Japanese.
Whilst Britain celebrated VE Day with gusto, there would have been many local people anxiously thinking of their loved ones still fighting in the Far East or held as POWs by the Japanese. VJ Day was a significant moment for them when they could truly celebrate the thought of the safe return of husbands, fathers, sons, and brothers.
Friday 15th and Saturday 16th August 11.00am to 3.00pm
Museum admission charges apply.
