There are lots of different ways you can contribute to the life of the Museum and we are always looking for volunteers.

Our volunteer posts will be involved in a range of aspects of the Museum operations, its planning and engagement, while recruiting and supervising a team of volunteers relating to specific heritage operations.

In return for your support, you will also enjoy:

Community Engagement Volunteer

This role includes:

  • Supporting the coordination and delivery of community engagement outreach activity
  • Developing links with schools, local businesses and organisations
  • Supporting museum staff in opening and closing the museum for certain activities
  • Involved in the museum’s overall activity and programming planning

Gallery Volunteer

This role includes:

  • Welcoming visitors to the museum
  • Stewarding in the galleries and library
  • Assisting and supporting workshops in the museum
  • Assisting and supporting events in the museum

Visitor Experience Volunteer

This role includes:

  • Providing a visitor welcome and information during their visit
  • Serving merchandise and souvenirs
  • Taking part in an occasional pop up cafe (pre-prepared food and self-service drinks) alongside special events
  • Handling cash, till and restocking shop stock
  • Answering the phone
  • Assisting in keeping the front of house areas safe, clean and clear

Education Volunteer

  • Preparing for workshops and visits
  • Supporting the lead Education Officer
  • Assisting and supporting learning workshops in the museum
  • Assisting and supporting learning events in the museum
